The New York City Subway System has the longest metropolitian track milage in the world.
A "New York Minute" passes even faster than one thinks. Please allow plenty of time to account for traffic.
Late, No Show, and Cancellation Policy:  This policy is strictly enforced! Please help me to keep my schedule on time for your benefit; as well as others. I prefer to give each and every patient as much time as is possible during their appointment. In this way we can fairly provide low volume with high quality service; which is the benefit of a private practice over a clinic.

Without adequate time I am less able to treat my patients to the very best of my abilities. I consider a compromise of quality as un-acceptable, and therefore still find it necessary to give even a late patient a full hour. When you are late service to everyone else scheduled for the rest of the day becomes delayed as well.

For these reasons,
our policy requires your appointment to be automatically rescheduled if you are 20 minutes or more late.  This policy is strictly enforced.

In addition if you are consistently 10 minutes or more late we require a minimum $75 per 1/2 hour late fee. Two or more no-shows (in excess of 20 minutes) per year are subject to a $150 per hour No-Show Fee.

We regret that we reserve the right to discharge any patient from our practice who does not show up for their appointments 3 or more times; without calling to cancel or reschedule.

Of course there are always circumstances beyond your control, and we will make exceptions for special circumstances. Personal emergencies are considered excluded from this policy on a case by case basis.

Upon the 2nd no-show you may be required to provide a credit card number on file to secure your appointment with a deposit.  You can easily avoid these fees by informing us of your need to reschedule at least 3 hours prior to the appointment time.

As with all health care professions there are no guarantees for any particular result. This is especially true for Dental Aesthetics (“Cosmetic Dentistry”). Only in-house credit may apply for changes in treatment plan. The Patient's ability to transfer this credit to another patient is determined on a case by case basis. In rare cases in house credit, financial assistance, or courtesy fee deductions maybe withdrawn for a patient's violation of the "patient standards policy" (available upon request), or as determined by our Standard Office Procedure (SOP) Manual.

Diagnostic Wax-up Policy:

What are "Diagnostic Wax-ups?"

Dental Aesthetic cases require diagnostic records and completion of a comprehensive aesthetic analysis. This requires a great deal of effort in taking photos, making a minimum of 4 Impressions, taking a "Face Bow Transfer" measurement of the relationship between the jaws and the hinge point of the mouth, fabrication of Mylar vacuum formed trays to help prepare and temporize the teeth, then completion of a composite model to demonstrate the finished case.

My philosophy concerning Estimates & Second Opinions...
There are as many types of estimates as there are treatment plans.

Consultations, and Fair Estimate Policy:   I do not give estimates without obtaining diagnostic records, and carefully evaluating a case. Nor will I review estimates from other Dentists to beat their fees; as this may lead to an ethical dilemma and compromise of  your care. If you want me to review someone else's treatment plan, I will try my best to do so with an objective opinion. I would welcome the opportunity in giving you the confidence to return to a good Dentist.

Consultation Rates  I do not believe that “Free Consultations” are always truly free, and therefore charge a minimum $75 per 1/2 hour for patient related treatment. Every Doctor has an overhead cost that must be met.  Charging for consultation time to cover cost is therefore fair and releases the consulting Doctor from a conflict of interest. The cost of  X-Rays or other diagnostic procedures are not included. For non-treating Dental Consultation in Corporate, Business, or Legal matters I charge $395 per hour (one hour minimum). Exceptions to this policy are made for victims of physical abuse on a case-by-case basis.

An Ethical Dilemma - The Danger of the so called “Free Consultation”

Is the consulting Dentist providing a service or selling a product? Or is the Dentist just trying to help you out? In some cases second opinions with "Free Consultation" is like asking a spider if I can jump on your web. The question is -- will I get stuck? If you feel that you need a second opinion, then insist that you pay for it so that you establish yourself as expecting an unbiased opinion.

This is especially true when your present Doctor has already treatment planned, prepared, and temporized your teeth for aesthetic dental cases. I accept cases such as this only after I have discussed the case with the previous Dentist. The most difficult part of your case (treatment planning) is complete, and any offers by others to finish that case cheaper is only because there is a lot less work to do.

Providing my Best Effort:  I do not consider being in competition with other Dentist.  I believe that you should have the right to choose, and to do so with the correct information. I especially avoid disparaging comments about other Doctors as this to me is self-serving. I suggest that you avoid those who do so; or who consider such tactics the norm.

Dental Decisions based upon Knowledge:  Explaining the facts honestly and clearly is important to me.  I believe that a good Doctor makes an effort to teach his patients about their health care in a fair and honest manner. Did you know that the word “Doctor” means teacher? A Doctor should always be able to give a reasonable explanation as to  why something is the way that it is. And teaching the patient helps the Doctor to work out the process of his treatment plan. I believe that if you can not explain your diagnosis, then perhaps you do not know the answer. Teaching the patient about their care instills confidence in your treatment plan and encourages proficiency. That is why I  love to teach, and do so in many educational programs such as in the Dental Clinic of Columbia University, College of Dental Medicine.

Fee Consideration:   My services may cost more than others because of my proportional overhead costs.  I make a concerted effort to spend as much time as needed to provide service to the best of my abilities. Many times I even complete some of my own lab work as a quality control effort. This takes time away from seeing other patients and therefore increases my per patient overhead..

Where as many Doctors see 12 to 21 patients per day, I only see 5 to 8 on the average. I consider my fees fair for the type of effort that I give, but will make compromises in cases of special consideration.

Our Commitment to Satisfaction of Service:    There are 12 Dentist in our family. It is a tradition of Dentistry that goes back to 1941. We strive to keep that family tradition with a commitment to service. If you are happy with our Practice please tell everyone!  But of course if you are un-happy with our service, please let me know.
I will make every effort to correct the problem and not let it happen again.
